Summer of 2009: CTAE staff carry out space projects at Silicon Valley – Presentation of results at NASA Ames and at CTAE Viladecans
Following the strong relationship between CTAE and the International Space University (ISU) since 2005, as many as eight CTAE colleagues are participating in the research projects carried out in the frame of ISU's Space Studies Programme, hosted this year by NASA at its Ames Research Center in Moffett Field, right in the heart of Silicon Valley in California. CTAE staff contribute in a variety of ways: as students, support staff, visiting lecturers or faculty members.
The projects are carried out by graduate students and young professionals from around the world in a multidisciplinary and intercultural setting, and are coached by senior space experts from Space Agencies, Universities and Industry. The three 2009 Team Projects deal with the following topics:
- Disaster Risk Management using Space Assets (DREAM),
- Space Aid for Energy on Earth (SAFEN),
- Martian Caves for Human Exploration and Settlement (ACCESS).
CTAE is proud to have such a strong presence in the SSP’09 programme which is sponsored, besides NASA, by leading companies in the aerospace field, including Boeing, Cisco, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman and Oracle.
The results of the SSP programme, and in particular of the three Team Projects, will be presented by the SSP’09 participants at international congresses and other venues in the coming months, starting with the following:
- On 27 August at NASA Ames Research Center in Moffett Field, California, as part of the closing events of the International Space University’s SSP’09 Programme.
- On 16 September at CTAE in Viladecans, Barcelona, as part of an Industry day on New Business Opportnities in Aerospace. As of mid-August, almost 200 professionals are already registered for this event, which is organised in collaboration with the ACC1Ó Business Innovation Agency of the Government of Catalonia, and with BAiE –Barcelona Aeronautics and Space Association.
