Terrassa (Barcelona), 25 November 2009.

Directors of Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), SENER and CTAE inaugurated COMPOLAB, a new lab for research and development in advanced composite materials and manufacturing processes for aeronautics.

Promoted by SENER, a major Spanish engineering company and member of CTAE’s Board, this lab responds to the needs for training engineering students in composite materials and for applied research in manufacturing processes. The main equipment includes a 4 meter long hot drape forming machine, and a pultrusion machine, both developed specifically for the lab. COMPOLAB is located in the INTEXTER Institute for Textile Research on UPC’s Campus in Terrassa. It will be open to contracted research by any interested company, and will also be used for hands-on training of engineering students from the nearby ETSEIAT School of Industrial and Aeronautical Engineering. During the opening ceremony, Prof. Xavier Gil, UPC’s Vice-Rector for Research, said that “This initiative is an excellent example of the dynamic approach to teaching and research of the players involved, and shows how the University collaborates with Industry and Technology Centres for a common goal”.
