Launch of the first two Galileo satellites October 20, 2011
The first two Galileo navigation satellites are ready for launch from the French Guiana on 20th October 2011 at 12h34 CET. The satellites will be deployed into their final orbit at an altitude of 23.222 km.
Another two satellites will be launch early next year completing the IOV phase of the Galileo programme. The In-Orbit Verification (IOV) phase will validate the Galileo system design in orbit using a reduced constellation of four satellites (the minimum required to guarantee the provision of exact positioning and timing at the test locations), along with a small number of ground stations.
